Wednesday 2 March 2016 - Santiago de Chile – Lima – Arequipa        

This afternoon arrive in the “White City” of Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru, guarded by 3 imposing, snow-capped volcanoes. Although the buildings have been crafted from local white sillar rock, many have been painted vibrant colours, a delightful surprise as you wander the cobblestone streets.

This evening you are free to explore on your own. Arequipa is the centre of modern Peruvian gastronomy so join the locals at a communal picanteria restaurant.

Thursday 3 March - Arequipa 

On this morning’s tour of the World Heritage listed city admire the wonderful colonial architecture. The superb Plaza de Armas with its imposing palm trees is surrounded by classic arched buildings and the striking cathedral. Visit the Santa Catalina Convent and imagine those 450 nuns of the 16th century, swishing around the cloisters, completely isolated form the outside world.

The rest of the day is free. You may wish to visit mueum dedicated to the “Ice Maiden”, a 12 year old girl sacrificed to the gods in the 1450s and discovered in 1995. Or just wander the streets or watch the world go by form a rooftop terrace café.

Friday 4 March 2016 - Arequipa – Colca Canyon

Today we travel through a mountainous landscape to Colca Canyon, an area of astounding scenic beauty and one of the world’s deepest canyons.  Admire the stepped terraces, many date back to pre-Inca times, clinging to the mountain side. Stop at a viewpoint on the Andean Plateau to view a string of spectacular volcanoes soaring to 6,000 metres.

This afternoon enjoy the delights of the hotel.

Saturday 5 March 2016 - Colca Canyon

This morning travel to the Mirador Cruz del Condor viewpoint where you can peer over the edge and see the river, like a tiny trickle, over a kilometre below, while the cliffs tower above you to merge into snowy peaks. Spectacular! Watch as legendary condors rise and circle on the morning thermals. Visit  some local villages before returning to the hotel.

Sunday 6 March 2016 - Colca Canyon – Lake Titicaca        

Today travel through the spectacular Andean landscape, spotting wild vicuna and alpaca on the Altiplano. Arrive at your hotel which is on a private island in Lake Titicaca, on the border between Peru and Bolivia and the highest navigable waterway on earth.  Enjoy a Pisco Sour while watching the sunset over a remarkable scene.

Monday 7 March 2016 - Lake Titicaca

Travel by boat to a number of villages including the highlight – Islas Uros.  The village floats on the lake, having been constructed entirely of interwoven reeds. Discover the way of life the Uros people, who built these floating villages to isolate themselves from more aggressive tribes.

Enjoy one last night with your fellow travellers sharing a delicious dinner at the hotel.
